Judy Wilcox is a gifted and talented energetic therapist that is well trained, insightful, and sincere.  After experiencing years of frustrations with more traditional forms of clinical medicine, I reached out to Judy many years ago in a last ditch effort to truly understand the patterns of my chronic behavior, and emotional pain, that I was repeating over and over again.  I had lost hope with a system that wasn’t serving my needs or helping me in any shape or form.

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting very fine and sterile needles into specific body points to improve health and well-being. It orginated in China more than 2,000 years ago. At the core of understanding acupuncture is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced “chee”) flows through energy pathways in the body called “meridians". Each meridian connects to one specific organ that governs particular bodily functions. For example, some of the meridians are: the heart, large intestine, lung, spleen, kidney, small intestine, bladder and liver. Acupuncture points are also located in the outer ear.

Qi maintains the dynamic balance of yin and yang, the complementary opposites that are reflected in all beings and throughout nature. When too little or too much qi exists in a meridian or when the qi stagnates or is blocked, illness results. By applying needles to certain points along the meridian lines, acupuncture restores equilibrium and health by correcting the flow of qi. In chinese, there is a saying , “If there is pain, there is no free flow; if there is free flow, there is no pain.”

Acupuncture was formally recognized as part of mainstream medicine’s range of healing options in 1997, when the National Institute of Health issued a statement documenting its safety and efficacy for a range of health conditions.

Acupuncture can treat:

Ear, nose & throat imbalances such as toothaches, earaches, sinusitis

Cold, flu, asthma, allergies

Nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation

hypertension, insomnia, anxiety, depression, headache

Menstrual balancing for: PMS, infertility, menopausal symptoms

Addicitons, smoking cessation

Is used for general stress reduction and relaxation

Afraid of needles? Then try acupressure- a needleless teatment of applying gentle pressure to acupuncture points!

What to expect during and after an acupuncture treatment?

acupuncture needles are typically not much thicker than a human hair and their insertion is practically painless. There may be some tingling or sensation of the energy moving once the needles are in place. During the acupuncture treatment, many patients feel very relaxed and even fall asleep. Patients often experience an immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms. Depending upon the severity and duration of symptoms, a single treatment may be all that is needed for an acute condition (cold, sinusitis). For more chronic conditions, 5-10 treatments may be needed. Treatments may range from weekly to twice a month or on an as needed basis. Some patients like to get a “tune-up” with acupuncture as it leaves them feeling relaxed, rejunvenated and centered.
